About the Artist
Born and raised in New Rochelle, New York. Chris seeks to interpret the complexity of the human experience while revealing her fundamental desire to explore color and whitespace. Her work is mostly large scale mixed media paintings, and her tools include custom-made knives and large-format brushes. Chris’ paintings have been exhibited in both group and solo shows, and reside in several public and many private collections. She is represented by five galleries on the East Coast. Last year, Chris was awarded Best in Show for her work Deliberate Passage during the NVFAA’s Anthenaeum Invitational in which nine artists were invited to exhibit. In 2014, Chris was inducted into the National Association of Women Artists.
"My process begins as an intuitive dance with the paint. I let the first strokes and splatters take me where they will, a kind of organic expression which I coax with water and dry brushes. In the early layers, I bond with the color while I distill my thoughts down to the most minimal composition. I paint in reaction to the human experience, and I am inspired to repel and quiet the chaos of life with marks that are bold but simple.
Using a variety of media, I come to terms with the elements of the work and attempt to identify and preserve its soul. My paintings ultimately are about everything, and nothing, all at the same time. If I can engage my audience to discover the mystery held in the white spaces, then my work is complete."
