Holle Black |
|
| Holle (pronounced "Holly") Black's work is about the transience of things; of nature, of the lovely, the small, the meek, the bold. The actual layers of the paint and plaster represent the layers and the passing of time. The images represent the beauty and transcience of nature. Holle tries to capture the quality of actuality, of a moment seized on and rendered purely and simply; a visual Haiku. The spirit of Haiku requires the the language be kept plain, yet give resonance and depth to the image. The French writer Roland Barthes speaks of Haiku`s " breach of meaning"..." what is left is the irreducible mysteriousness of the images themselves." This is the spirit she seeks for the work. Holle now lives in Decatur, Georgia. |
