Artist Statement

"We can not separate ourselves from the influence of our environment. It works for us, then turns around and works against us. If we force change - it reacts. If it forces us to change - we react. In my work, the figure is immersed and fused into an environment of color, texture, and line. With this approach I hope to cause the viewer to become aware of these symbiotic reactions."

Biography

Carole Connely is an expert in using color and an expressionist brush to evoke emotion. Her lively interpretations of time, space and motion consist of sketch renderings of figures set in abstract atmosphere. These apparitions are often futuristic in nature and indiscernible until the second glance.

Her compositions imply the figure's simultaneous emergence and regression by juxtaposing plane against plane of color which swirl and merge to form illusions of light, contour, and depth. Sforzando, a musical term indicating a strong and sudden accent, is one of many dramatic works created by Connely and inspired by her love of music, a theme which lends itself so well to her style. Carole Connely is a native of Illinois, now a resident of Georgia and maintains a studio in Stone Mountain.

Sadly, Carole passed away on January 8, 2006.  Click here to read here articles that followed her death.
