Michael Griffin

Michael Griffin is a 30 year old, emerging artist from Nashville dedicated to painting landscapes in the plein air ("outdoor") tradition. He is a graduate of Montgomery Bell Academy ('98) and Wake Forest University ('02) where he was awarded a four year Presidential Scholarship in Art. Having lived nearly two years in Jackson Hole, Wyoming, painting the western landscape, taking workshops under regional painters, and studying local museum collections, Michael has returned home to capture the southern landscape in a similar fashion. A rich love for art history and classical painting combined with a zest for exploring the outdoors inform his work. His fascination with landscape painting continues to draw him to the scenery of the American West, Europe, Tennessee, and the Carolinas. In the summer of 2005, he received the honor of being accepted into the Arts for the Parks Top 100, a national competition with over 2500 entries that recognizes those artists who have best represented America's National Parks. The Top 100, including Michael's work, went on a year-long nationwide tour of select museums and galleries. Michael was recently accepted as a member of Oil Painters of America. Also, Michael and his artwork were featured in the September 2009 issue of Southwest Art in their annual article 21 Under 31. Each year, Southwest Art selects 21 artists under the age of 31 nationwide that they believe have a promising future in the world of art. Please contact the gallery for addition information.
